  • Lead the strategic planning and management of HR and health and safety services to support regional management and staff.
  • Provide specialist advice on a range of issues such as performance and leadership development, establishment management, employee relations, training and development, policy, equity and diversity, employee entitlements and workforce capability.
  • Liaise with relevant operational managers and internal and external stakeholders to ensure adequate strategic and operational planning, with respect to HR and health and safety.

  • Develop and maintain productive and professional relationships within the QAS, Queensland Health, other government agencies and with key external stakeholders/partners.
  • Lead the provision of high-quality HR services to regional managers and employees, including reporting, performance management, recruitment and selection and HR advice, to ensure HR processes are efficient and comply with relevant legislation, directives, policies and procedures.
  • Lead the provision of high-quality workplace health and safety management support, including compliance and assurance, reporting and statistical trends, hazard identification, preventative actions, injury management and promotion of safe work practices to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Provide strategic advice, policy and support to clients on absenteeism management, management of employee underperformance, disciplinary procedures and processes including dismissals, ethics and Code of Conduct in relation to performance issues, performance appraisals and grievances.
  • Build regional capability through the provision and facilitation of coaching and training in relation to relevant policy and procedures.
  • Coordinate investigations and reviews into a range of employee relations issues and develop, negotiate and implement appropriate strategies for resolution.
  • Manage all employees reporting to this position by developing staff to their full potential, monitoring staff performance and providing ongoing feedback and development opportunities.
  • Provide guidance and direction to ensure the region achieves departmental priorities in relation to workplace health and safety.
  • Through relevant staff, oversee the provision of high-quality workplace health and safety management support, including compliance and assurance, reporting and statistical trends, hazard identification, preventative actions, injury management, return to work/rehabilitation support and promotion of safe work practices to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Undertake policy and procedural reviews and provide recommendations to enable business improvement opportunities for regional and statewide operations.
  • As a leader, actively demonstrate and promote the QAS's approach of zero tolerance towards violence and commit to supporting those affected by domestic and family violence in accordance with QAS policies and mechanisms. Model and influence a workplace culture of gender equality, respectful relationships, diversity, inclusion, employee safety and support.

  • It is a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against COVID-19.
  • The incumbent may be required to travel on official business and the possession of a C class driver's licence may be required.
  • Whilst not mandatory, possession of tertiary or postgraduate qualification/s in HR or another relevant discipline will be highly regarded.
