Job Purpose and Impact

The Global Core R&D Leader will be responsible for all operations and strategy for the Cargill Core R&D Organization. Core R&D is a highly technical/deep scientific research team within Cargill that includes the following subgroups: Ingredient Chemistry/Research, Materials Science, Nutrition Research, Biotechnology, Biology, Fermentation, Food Safety Research, Chemical Characterization and Innovation Value Capture. This organization’s capabilities are leveraged across multiple groups and enterprises at Cargill. The role leads teams with resources (scientists and laboratories) located in the USA, Belgium, China and Singapore. This role develops and directs research programs (internal and external); creates technology solutions; delivers targeted business services; has functional responsibility for multiple Core technologies and enabling sciences. Additional responsibilities include safety, budget and talent management, building a network of external scientific partners and managing the creation of a large IP portfolio on behalf of mulitple Cargill businesses. In partnership with the global R&D leadership team this role will provide leadership to ensure the research and development is aligned with business strategy, earnings and growth objectives across the business. In this role, you will collaborate with global and local business stakeholders to provide effective development and science to implement global new products and solutions and develop and transfer technologies to enable the company a partner of choice for customers. You will provide direction for the implementation of research and development vision globally and provide business and customer partnership on technology solutions development, value creation, business group optimization, budget, talent management and change leadership. You will also ensure the group effectively and efficiently leverages “one R&D”, the research and development knowledge and capabilities embedded in the groups or the corporate and external resources. Key Accountabilities

Partner with businesses and external stakeholders to champion and leverage technology innovations to support business growth, identify emerging trends aligned with business and customer needs and deliver research programs to continuously support the business growth.
Acts as a champion for the “One R&D” strategy, partnering with all R&D teams across Cargill to ensure research capabilities are optimally positioned to complement other R&D capabilities as effectively and efficiently as possible
Provide scientific resources and capabilities to support specific development projects within business innovation pipelines, deliver ground breaking ideas to create business opportunities from scientific knowledge, including high performance innovations, new products and new customer solutions.
Develop the vision and implement programs for emerging technology needs in new or maturing markets and develop a long term strategic research partnership with key customers and suppliers.
Partner with related essential leadership to align research strategies, processes and capabilities with current and future strategic business needs.
Along with other R&D Leaders on the Global R&D Functional Leadership Team, Serve as strategic and tactical enabler to the development of strategies, processes and control mechanisms to ensure compliance with related laws, regulations and company policies and provides leadership to establish procedures and tools to oversee the intellectual assets.
Appropriately influencing to balance R&D programs and investments appropriately between mature and high-growth products (core, adjacent and transformational) to reflect business priorities
Represent the company in external organizations to appropriately influence key external authorities and opinion leaders and anticipate emerging technology trends and needs.
Lead the overall global operating budget and expenses for Core R&D and develop programs and projects to continuously improve operating efficiency.
Provide mid- to long-term (three or more years) strategic leadership, development and talent management for multiple teams of directors and managers. You will develop mid- to long-term plans to optimize the organization, function or subfunction and the talent required to execute strategies in job area. You will inspire others by articulating the positive impact the organization can make, while creating an environment in which people know where they stand, including when they are performing poorly.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
Broad expertise in chemistry, material science, food or human or animal nutrition
Experience leading and developing high performing teams and leading change in a global matrix organization
Experience developing a network of external alliances with potential partners and prominent research organizations
Minimum 10 years of directly related work experience
Minimum 7 years of supervisory experience Preferred Qualifications
Doctorate degree in a relevant science
Strong personal academic credentials including publications or patents
Broad expertise in ingredient chemistry, material science and/or human nutrition.
Experience across biotechnology as well as food and protein sectors is preferred.
Experience in a diverse range of R&D roles
Experience working (resident) outside country of nationality and/or working with global teams.
Strong, personal academic credentials (publications, patents etc)
Experience managing large, multinational teams
